About the General Fund: Supports the general operations of the Daily Cal. That includes daily printing, student commissions for articles, and off-campus distribution.
About Technology and Equipment (cameras, computers, etc.): News gathering takes more than a pad of paper. Cameras, recording equipment, computers, etc. The Daily Cal strives to provide the best equipment for our reporters, designers and photographers; donating funds or even recently-used equipment can help us out more than ever.
About Digital Development (website improvements, video, podcasts): Online development covers some of our most important work: bringing the Daily Cal’s editorial content to our audience through more than just print. These digital initiatives include innovations on our website, more video and podcast production, plus research and development for new projects.
About Student Training (DeCals, guest training, workshops): The Daily Californian functions as much as a training ground for interested UC Berkeley students as it does as the city of Berkeley’s newspaper. DeCals– student-led classes at UC Berkeley– can help educate students interested in journalism. Workshops, as well, serve to magnify the knowledge of the students who produce our paper. Ultimately, supporting student training at the Daily Cal creates the foundation for a great newspaper.
About Restore Wednesdays: In September of 2008, due to budget shortfalls, The Daily California suspended printing newspapers on Wednesdays. One of our main goals is to restore Wednesdays and deliver news to our community all five days of the week online and in print.
About Digitizing the Archives: The Daily Californian, with over 140 years of history, has many archives. The initiative to digitize our archives would allow more people access to the immense information they hold.
About Scholarships: Scholarships give students opportunity to do more with their time at the Daily Cal. Supporting the diversity and viability of the Daily Californian staff is key to keeping its product at the same great quality at which it is now. The best way to achieve this is through scholarships to the deserving student staff of the newspaper.
