Dear friends and alumni,
Our paper, our website, our university and our country are at a crossroads. We need a strong and deeply motivated journalism corps to cast light on the darker corners that threaten our institutions. The Daily Californian trains those media professionals.
The Daily Cal gives students a hands-on education, serves as a cutting-edge news outlet and is the voice of the UC Berkeley community. The Daily Californian Education Foundation needs your help to sustain this storied institution. We need additional resources to support and train our record number of staff members. We are counting on generous alumni and friends like you.
Your tax-deductible contribution will allow us to address immediate operational needs, provide scholarships and acquire much-needed equipment and software for our photo, multimedia and design teams. As an independent, student-run newspaper, we need your support to sustain our voice and our goals at a time when the traditional definition of news is changing at a rapid pace.
Since 1871, we have provided an unparalleled opportunity for student leaders to have responsibility for our journalism and business departments. The training gives our staff a competitive advantage, allowing our graduates to work for nationally acclaimed media companies, businesses and nonprofits. With your help, we will continue to provide a cutting-edge education that gives our staff the skills needed in the modern workforce.
With a print circulation throughout the campus and city , an average of 1 million online page views per month and readers in more than 100 countries, we reach people well beyond Berkeley. In the past year, we began working on a major project to digitize our photo and page archives. This will help expand our reach. Attesting to the hard work of our staff, the Daily Cal consistently receives numerous awards from the California College Media Association and the Society of Professional Journalists. Your donations will allow us to expand our scope of readership as we grow our online presence.
For details about our fundraising goals, please read our wish list. Your donation to the Education Foundation counts toward your total Berkeley give, which can make you eligible for the Charter Hill Society. You can donate here or click on the link below. With best wishes for the holiday season,
